Wanted: Mommy Time Off

Published by mabela under parenting Edit This

Being a mother makes it hard for me to have time to myself.  I need to get out a bit and to do frivolous things like going for a walk, at my own pace, or going to the library just to flip through some magazines.

I used to go out to dinner with a group of women once a month.  These ladies were mainly friends of a friend, but we enjoyed being together.  We went to all sorts of restaurants, an 80’s dance, ceramic painting and even just out for dessert. Unfortunately, the group fell apart over the summer.  We still talk about trying again, maybe in the New Year.   Christmas and middle of summer was the worst for getting people to commit to going out.  Holidays and busy schedules seem to get in the way.

So how do I get motivated and actually go out?  I guess I need to schedule it on the calendar or at least figure out the best time for me to leave the house!    (’best time’  ya right!)

Please, blow your nose & cover your mouth when you cough!

Published by mabela under parenting Edit This

Not at the same time…hopefully.

My little guy has a cold.  He’s miserable and he seems determined to pass his sickness on to the rest of the family.   Ok.  Maybe he even passed it to a few others, since we dropped by the tail end of a birthday party to hand over a gift and have a piece of cake.  Sorry folks!

Should I mention the year a major virus got everyone ill after all the kids played with the same blob of play dough?  Well, that’s the suspected means of contamination…  Ew!

It’s hard to teach kids how to be polite and not share their germs.  If germs were something visible-like dandelion fluff or pollen–it would be a lot simpler.

“Who put these germ streaks all over your sleeve?”

“Why are there cold germs in the potato salad?”

“Wow!  You made a germ smoke circle with that cough!”

Gross, but tangible.

I guess I will have to go on nagging him to cover his mouth when he coughs, to sneeze into a tissue and to PLEASE wash his hands before he dips them in the potato salad.   Just kidding….maybe….
